Livestock Auction
The Livestock Auction is the most anticipated event for our Livestock exhibitors during the 3-day-fair, each year. Held every year on the Saturday evening of the fair, the sale is one of the most exciting moments for the livestock exhibitors who have been working tirelessly to properly feed, exercise, monitor, care for and prep their animals. Months of hard work bring the youth to this evening when all of their time will pay off! The 4-Her’s are anxious and eager for their buyers to arrive and inspect their livestock project before entering the ring.
Becoming a buyer, is an excellent way to support the livestock youth of your community who are excelling in the profession of livestock farming. The average age of today’s farmer is nearly 60 years old. This younger generation is a pivotal part of the future of our world and without your support, they will struggle to continue the legacy that thousands of farmers have left for them. Anyone can be a buyer at the livestock auction, no experience necessary!
If you are interested in filling your freezer with locally grown, farm raised, well-loved beef, pork, goat or lamb, arrive at the Auction early for the Buyer’s Reception, beginning at 6pm on Saturday. See the registration table and sign up as a buyer. Talk with the 4-Hers and get to know their projects. You’re guaranteed to have a quality product and you will have supported the youth of your community while providing for your family. Get creative and go “halves” with a friend, coworker, boss or family member to split the cost and amount of meat!
Bid first, bid often and bid last! Once the hammer falls, and you are deemed the winning bidder, you’ll get your photo taken immediately with the 4-Her and your purchased prize animal. After the sale closes, you’ll check out by paying your bill with cash, check or credit card. The animals will be shipped for processing to your desired, or a recommended, butcher. You will need to call the butcher on Monday morning to discuss which cuts you would like. All butchers have a basic sheet that you will be able to view which shows how many lamb chops you can get, how large your rump roasts will be, or how many pounds of bacon you’d like in a pack. The butcher will notify you of pickup dates and the last step is to cook the locally grown meat and enjoy the end product with your family and friends! Of course, return next year and repeat.
